South River continued their play in the Chesapeake Invitational against the Mercy High School Magic of Baltimore. As they did in their earlier victory over Archbishop Spalding, the Seahawks kept the majority of play on the Mercy side of the field. South River was finally able to take the lead at the 27 minute mark when Alyssa Cowens took a hard pass from Maddie Kunst into the goal box and shot past the diving keeper for a 1-0 Seahawks lead. The remainder of the first half was a back and forth affair with neither team able to score and settled for a 1-0 Seahawks halftime lead. The second half was frustrating for both teams as neither was able to penetrate the other team’s defense and the game ended with South River 1-0 win. South River goalkeepers Maddie Dubois and Sam Smith combined for their third consecutive shutout.
